Charles Davis calls out Bears after Caleb Williams appears to suffer injury in blowout vs. Cardinals

Chicago Bears coach Matt Eberflus is getting criticism after for leaving quarterback Caleb Williams in on the final drive of a 29-9 blowout loss against the Cardinals. Williams appeared to suffer an injury on the last play of the game and limped off the field.
That led CBS analyst Charles Davis to pose the question as to why Williams was on the field anyway with the game already decided. The drive began with 2:15 remaining and the Bears trailing by three possessions.
“I’m sorry, this just does not make sense to me,” Davis said on the broadcast. “This is your rookie quarterback. This is the face of your franchise. I don’t think he should have been out there for the two minutes.”
Williams confirmed to reporters postgame that he rolled his ankle on the play, but added that he is “OK.” Eberflus was questioned postgame about his decision to leave the QB in the game, defending it by saying he wanted to get Williams work in two-minute situations.

As for Williams, he was simply doing what was asked of him.
“That’s not my decision,” he said. “You fight til the end of the game if you’re in the game. If not and coach makes a decision like that, you have to deal with it and figure out the next steps. But not my decision.”
The No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Williams has now directed the Bears to a 4-4 start in his rookie year. Sunday marked the second straight week in which he failed to throw for a touchdown and he was also sacked six times.
Overall, the QB has been off to a solid first season 1,448 yards passing and nine touchdowns to five interceptions. Thankfully, in Caleb Williams’ own words, the injury doesn’t appear to be anything serious.
