Charlie Condon, Colorado Rockies reach agreement with record-tying $9.25M signing bonus
The Colorado Rockies and 2024 MLB Draft No. 3 overall selection Charlie Condon reached an agreement Friday on a deal for a $9.25 million signing bonus, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN.
Condon matches the bonus of Cincinnati Reds RHP and No. 2 overall selection Chase Burns as the biggest draft bonus in MLB history.
Condon, 21, became a surefire first round selection following two dominant seasons with the Bulldogs. In the 2023-24 campaign, Condon slashed .433/.556/.1.009 to go along with 37 home runs and 78 RBI. Condon led the NCAA in OPS (1.565), slugging percentage (1.043), batting average (.443), and home runs (37) while simultaneously leading Georgia to a 43-17 record, a berth in the Super Regional round of the NCAA baseball tournament and a ranking of No. 10 in the nation.
“Drafting Charlie this high is a testament to his incredible work ethic and dedication,” Georgia head baseball coach Wes Johnson said. “It highlights that with perseverance and hard work, it is possible to develop to an elite level, even if you weren’t highly recruited out of high school. His journey reflects the unwavering support and guidance from his parents and the invaluable contributions of all the coaches who helped shape his talent and character. This achievement is not only a personal victory for Charlie but also a proud moment for the University of Georgia and its baseball program.”

Condon took home the Dick Howser Trophy, Bobby Bragan National Collegiate Slugger Award and was the recipient of the 2024 Golden Spikes Award. With his plus power, Condon is a natural fit for the hitter friendly Coors Field and could be manning the hot corner in short time.
“It is super exciting stuff to be part of an organization that has got so much history in such a cool ballpark with really great people within the organization all around,” Condon said. “It has been awesome. All I can think about is my teammates at UGA who have propelled me into this position. I would not be here without you guys. I will always remember that.”
