Charlotte Hornets select Brandon Miller in 2023 NBA Draft
To no one’s surprise, former Alabama star Brandon Miller has come off the board near the very top of the 2023 NBA Draft. He was selected by the Charlotte Hornets with the No. 2 pick in the first round of the draft and now has an official home to begin his professional journey.
Miller’s entrance into the pros comes after an Alabama experience that was a tale of two seasons: one off the court and one on the court. For much of the year, Miller dominated headlines for his prolific scoring (more than 18 points a game) and meteoric rise to one of the premier talents in college hoops. However, he became embroiled in controversy over a tragic shooting that he and a teammate were involved in and that was the Miller story that took over the news for the rest of the season.
So, he’ll now be looking for a fresh start off the court as he tries to focus on what made him a household name to begin with: his incredible basketball talent. After all, Miller was just an All-American as a true freshman and came into college ranked as the No. 14 overall player in the 2022 class, per the On3 Industry Rankings. He’s quite gifted.

“An elite scorer who’s equally comfortable attacking the rim as he is launching threes, Miller has excellent size at 6-foot-9 with a wingspan approaching seven feet. While he’ll need to eventually add weight, Miller is already a crafty scorer who uses his length and athleticism to get to the hoop and finish over and around defenders. Scoring is his calling card, but Miller is a willing passer who displays high-level vision traits as a ballhandler and in the pick and roll. Mechanics-wise, Miller’s jumpshot is nearly flawless, and his three-point (38.4%) and free-throw (85.9%) percentages portend borderline-elite shooting at the next level. Defensively, Miller is active and engaged and should have the size to keep up with most NBA wings.”
He’s exactly what you want in the NBA: a multi-positional knockdown shooter and three-level scorer who can defend 1-4s and even some 5s if need be. A very high-floor and high-ceiling prospect.
