Chase Briscoe just opened up about making the transition from Stewart-Haas Racing to Joe Gibbs Racing. During a Tuesday press conference, Briscoe revealed that as soon as he learned that Stewart-Hass was closing, he was given the go-ahead to talk to other teams.

“It really started the day that Tony [Stewart] told us all,” Briscoe said. “He kind of asked us at the end that day when he told all the drivers do you guys have any questions? I said ‘What does this mean about us being able to talk to other people?’ He said ‘You guys are free to do whatever you want.

“So literally in the conference room, I just started texting all the team presidents I knew, and Dave [Alpern] was one of them, and just said, ‘Hey Stewart-Haas just let us know today that we’re kind of free to do whatever we want. Would love the opportunity to talk to you guys if there’s any potential there. The SHR announcement got done on Tuesday, and Wednesday night, Dave called me and said ‘Hey, would like to go to breakfast on Thursday,’ and I think I was signed by Tuesday. So it was a super-quick thing, it was like four or five days.”

Joe Gibbs is excited to add Chase Briscoe to the team

Briscoe will drive the No. 19 Toyota in 2025. He will take over for Martin Truex Jr. who announced his retirement this month. “We are extremely excited about the future of our 19 team with Chase (Briscoe) behind the wheel and the partnership with Johnny, J.P. and everyone at Bass Pro Shops,” Joe Gibbs, owner of Joe Gibbs Racing, said in a team release. “I talk about it often, but one of the great things about our sport is the relationships you have the opportunity to build around your teams and certainly we are just so thankful to have that with everyone at Bass Pro Shops. We obviously do a lot of research before selecting our drivers and through the process everything kept pointing us back to Chase.”

Briscoe, 29, is in his fourth season as a full-time Cup Series driver and has recorded 27 top-10 finishes and one win in 126 races. His best season was in 2022 when he won the spring race in Phoenix and finished ninth in the Cup Series standings.
