Having to replace Martin Truex Jr. in the No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing car next season won’t be an easy task for Chase Briscoe. That pressure is the reason why Briscoe is in NASCAR.

Race car drivers, at least the best ones, thrive on pressure. Having to overcome adversity, being expected to win, and getting the heart rate up. That’s what the sport is all about.

Speaking with NASCAR.com, Chase Briscoe talked about his expectations for next year at JGR. It’s going to be different than Stewart-Haas Racing.

“I love the pressure side, but I do think this is probably the most pressure I’ve ever been [under] in my life, as far as professionally,” Briscoe explained. “It’s weird because there’s been other times where my career was literally going to be over, right? But I feel like this is one of those opportunities where if you don’t perform, like, there’s no excuses. Like, you have to perform at JGR. So from that standpoint, it is different because everywhere else, there’s really not been that expectation.

“SHR, where we were at as a company was totally different. We weren’t expected, really, to go win. And if you win, then awesome, right? That’s great. But you weren’t expected to go win week in, week out, where at JGR, you are expected to be up front every single weekend. So from that standpoint, it is going to be totally different than anything I’ve really had in my career. So yeah, I’ll just have to figure it out.”

A change in expectations may be just what Briscoe needs to revitalize his career.

Chase Briscoe has new expectations

Given how SHR performed in the last three years, the Southern 500 victory this season was major for Chase Briscoe. One last hoorah for the No. 14 team and the organization as a whole.

Briscoe is regarded as a talented driver. He will turn 30 in a few days meaning he has plenty of racing ahead of himself. He has been a winner at every level of NASCAR. Driving for Joe Gibbs Racing should help him unlock his full potential in the Cup Series.

What are realistic expectations? I think winning a race and making the playoffs is the minimum. JGR is getting younger with this move and probably wants results as soon as they can get them.

Chase Briscoe will be teamed up with James Small. It will be interesting if this duo can get speed from the 19 car that it has seemingly lacked for the most part in the last three years.
