After a solid day on the track, things got sideways for Chase Elliott and Joey Logano at the Magic Mile. Logano went up the track and into the side of Elliott, causing damage for both NASCAR champions.

Joey Logano took the worst of this incident. His team is having to replace a toe link and the 22 car will go to the very back of the field and likely multiple laps down. Not what either driver wanted. Chase Elliott’s top-20 streak this season is in jeopardy.

Right now, rain and storms are moving into the area. This race could be over before we know it.

Chase Elliott has not finished outside of the top-20 this season. As for Joey Logano, he needed a solid run to keep himself in the playoff picture. He had started to pass Bubba Wallace for the last spot in on points and that is when things fell apart.

With his wreck and all of the time on pit road, the hope of passing Wallace is likely going to go away. Elliott still has a little bit of time to get things again and salvage his record for the season. Elliott is also the points leader at the moment, but that could change after the finish.

New Hampshire is not known for being a wild race track. Late in this one, there have been a number of incidents. Just enough cautions to make it interesting after a huge block of green flag racing to start the day.

Chase Elliott will try to bounce back

Things for Joey Logano are more or less over. Chase Elliott is still in this, for sure. The only thing that will hurt Elliott at this point is the weather. With 82 laps to go, the race went under a red flag and racing halted at New Hampshire.

Lightning and rain are in the area. NASCAR will try to let things pass and then attempt to dry the track. There is time to get more laps in, if not the entire race, before sunset. Night is the hard stop to this race with no lights at the track.

Tyler Reddick is in the lead. Denny Hamlin sits P2. There are a lot of things that could happen in this race, but the race has to get started again for any of it to really happen. Reddick is in the best place to be when rain hits the track, P1.

Chase Elliott likely won’t win this race. He has a chance to keep his points lead and earn another top-20 finish, though. Will he be able to close the gap and get it done? Has the weather ruined things for him?
