Chase Elliott wrecks hard during Chicago Street Race qualifying
More struggles for Chase Elliott at the NASCAR Chicago Street Race as he finds the wall in Turn 8 during his qualifying session. Elliott has been having issues ever since his car took to the track during practice. Now, his team will have work to do to repair his No. 9 Chevy Camaro before Sunday’s race.
Right before qualifying, Chase Elliott said he just wasn’t good on this track. Coming to Turn 8, which gave drivers in the Xfinity and Cup Series issues, Elliott couldn’t hold it straight. He came in too quickly and went right into that temporary barrier.
This is going to really mess with Elliott’s weekend. He needed to at least have a good points race if he wants to make the playoffs. However, a win is about the only thing that will get him to the postseason at this point. A hard hit into the wall for the 9.
Elliott was released from the care center shortly after this incident.
Things have just gone from bad to worse for Chase Elliott in Chicago. He was optimistic about the course after watching the Xfinity Series. Things just have not clicked for Elliott on the streets of Chicago. It isn’t anything to do with his car, he just hasn’t been able to find the right groove around the track.
Sunday might be a long afternoon for Elliott and his team. They will not have a great starting position and will have to fight through the pack if they want to have a good race. An uphill battle awaits Elliott.

Chase Elliott admitted he was ‘not good’ during practice
Before his wreck in qualifying, Chase Elliott had a hard time in practice. He didn’t spin out, but he didn’t find any speed whatsoever. Without being able to traverse the course how he wants to, he can’t really make any adjustments to his car. He seems lost as he searches for an answer.
Ahead of qualifying, Elliott spoke with MRN and was open about his struggles.
“I am not good, so just trying to figure it out. … I’m not even close enough to start complaining (about the car),” Elliott said. That is not what you want to hear from your driver if you’re a team.
It doesn’t seem like Chase Elliott is going to figure it out. Even if he does, he will be starting pretty far back, all things considered. P20 in practice and not any better in qualifying, either. I hope Elliott enjoys the sights of Chicago, there likely won’t be much good on the track to talk about after this weekend.
