Washington Football Team faithful are holding their breath as they await word on Chase Young. Earlier against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Young left the game, having to be carried off the field.

Before making his way to the locker room, Young was writhing on the ground in immense pain. Following the injury, Pro Football Doc David J. Chao gave his hypothesis on Young‘s injury.

“Multiple replay angles did not clearly show his right leg/knee,” tweeted Chao. “Let’s hope it is not that dreaded 3 letter injury starting with the letter A.”

Moreover, a torn ACL would be a terrible revelation for a defensive end who relies on raw athleticism. Unfortunately, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport confirmed Chao’s suspicion — tweeting that an ACL is the initial fear for Young.

“The initial fear for Washington DE Chase Young is a torn ACL, source said,” tweeted Rapoport. “The team is awaiting a full battery of tests, but if the diagnosis is confirmed, that would, of course, knock him out for the season.”

Things were going tremendous for Washington — Taylor Heinicke is playing well, the defense is buzzing and the Football Team leads Tampa Bay. Unfortunately, the injury to Young has put a damper on things.

More on Chase Young

Chase Young enjoyed a phenomenal rookie season in 2020. After being drafted No. 2 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft, Young propelled his team to an NFC East title — and himself to an NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award.

Moreover, the former Ohio State star amassed 7.5 sacks and four forced-fumbles in his rookie season. He was a terror, even taking a fumble back to the end-zone for a touchdown against San Francisco.

However, his sophomore season has been a challenge. After being selected as a preseason pick for the NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award, Young has just 1.5 sacks on the season. He’s been a non-factor in too many games, and Washington only has two wins on the season.

Still, a season-ending injury to Chase Young would be a gigantic blow to Washington’s slim hopes — and his bright career. Hopefully, the news of the Washington defensive end isn’t as bleak as it looks at the moment.
