Even on a football field, the cheese stands alone. And if you try to stand in his way, he’s going to shred you. That’s probably one-too-many cheese-related puns, but both apply to Sunday’s youth football-mascot matchup at halftime of the Packers-Falcons game.
During halftime of Sunday’s NFC matchup between Green Bay and Atlanta, mascots took the field to play a youth football team. It turned out to be “grate” entertainment, especially for those who love watching grown adults in mascot outfits obliterate small children.
The most egregious offender was a cheese block mascot, which levied a pretty sharp stiff-arm to a potential tackler. Let’s be honest, this kid had no chance (video courtesy FOX Sports):
We all understand this wasn’t the main event on Sunday, but it does provide some hilarious moments on the football field. Sunday was no different.
Just think, one day, that young kid will have the opportunity to tell his children that he took a stiff-arm from a block of cheese during a football game. And the video evidence exists.
These mascot-youth football games have become common occurrences in the NFL, especially in Atlanta. And usually, the mascots — even those dressed as a block of cheese — don’t hold back.
Falcons defeat Packers 25-24
The mascot game might’ve provided the biggest laugh from Sunday’s game in Atlanta, the actual football was pretty good, too.

Atlanta defeated Green Bay 25-24 to improve to 2-0 on the season. The Packers dropped to 1-1.
The Falcons overcame a 24-12 deficit to score the home victory. Early in the fourth quarter, Atlanta put together and eight-play, 75-yard touchdown drive, capped by a six-yard run by Desmond Ridder to the endzone to make the score 24-19.
On their final two possessions, the Falcons put together field goal drives to take a 25-24 advantage with 57 seconds to play. It was an exciting finish to the Week 2 game.
