Chevrolet unveils electric vehicle NASCAR Blazer prototype at Daytona

Earlier today at Daytona International Speedway, Chevrolet debuted its Blazer EV NASCAR Prototype with a modified Next Gen chassis. These will not be used in an actual racing series as of right now, but are used for testing.
There are many apprehensive fans when it comes to electric vehicles. However, NASCAR and Chevrolet see value in pursuing these technologies. Ford has its own electric prototype in the form of the Mustang Mach-E which debuted a couple of weeks ago.
This Chevy Blazer looks nice. The big wing on the back makes me think of a rally car or something like that. Before Nitrocross stopped its season midway through 2024, it was thought that these cars could be used in a series like that. Now they seem to just be prototypes.
Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports grabbed this photo and video of the Blazer EV prototype.
Testing new technologies like hybrid and electric vehicles is good for NASCAR. There is a lot you can learn about stock car racing by pursuing things that don’t necessarily seem directly related to stock car racing.
It also shows sponsors, manufacturers, and other potential partners in the sport that boundaries are being pushed. These aren’t just shade tree mechanics wrenching on cars anymore. NASCAR teams have highly educated engineers and other employees as well as advanced software and machinery.
The hope is that initiatives like this can convince other manufacturers to join the sport. However, that has been said for years at this point and remains to be seen.

Chevrolet to debut Blazer EV SS pace car
Talk about synergy, Chevrolet knew what they were doing this NASCAR weekend. They not only unveiled this Blazer prototype, but they have another Blazer EV. The official Daytona 500 pace car is a Blazer EV SS, but a consumer model.
Showing off the racecar version and the consumer version of the Blazer EV in the same weekend makes sense. Chevrolet knows that NASCAR fans are loyal consumers. These are also people who are more likely to be interested in cars and vehicles than the average audience.
Whether or not NASCAR fans like either of these Chevrolet EVs is up in the air. As other motorsport series look to pursue electric and hybrid options, is it the right thing for NASCAR? It appears that there is at least a little bit of interest there.
While NASCAR keeps saying that these electric cars are not going to be raced, is that true? Why build them if you aren’t going to at least try to race them? Ford and Chevy have released EVs of their own so far, is Toyota down the line?
