ESPN’s Adam Schefter had reported on Christmas that Pete Carroll had interest in being Chicago’s next head coach

Now, the next day on ‘Get Up’, Schefter further discussed the news of Carroll potentially wanting the Bears’ gig. He again said that, while there’s been no communication from either side, Carroll is hoping to get back into coaching. That’s after a season away from the NFL following 14 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks.

“Well, he is interested in the Chicago Bears job,” Schefter said. “Now, he has not spoken to the team. The team could talk to him at any point in time so we’ll see whether or not they even go ahead and speak to him.

“But Pete Carroll clearly is interested in returning to the sideline this upcoming season,” said Schefter. “We saw Bill Belichick take a year off and go back to coaching. Pete Carroll is interested in doing the same.”

However, Chicago has more to consider than just best name available on the coaching market. Their hope is hiring someone who the franchise thinks can get the potential out of Caleb Williams. That could be any number of names, some who are currently on staffs and some who have experience as head coach in the pros from the past, amidst their search right now to replace Matt Eberflus.

“We’ll see whether the Bears talk to him. But, with the Bears and their head coaching search, the focus is all going to be about finding the right coach to help grow Caleb Williams into the type of quarterback that he can be,” said Schefter.

“It feels like the city of Chicago is pulling for Ben Johnson, the Lions’ offensive coordinator, to wind up in Chicago. Mike Vrabel’s name has come up in contention there. Brian Flores’ name has come up in connection there,” Schefter said. “So there’s a lot of names that have come up.”

Carroll could become an option for Chicago with two games left before their offseason. Still, the hire is going to be who can best pair with Williams moving forward in the Windy City.

“It is obviously a huge hire that the Bears have for the future of Caleb Williams,” said Schefter.
