Justin Fields 'doubtful' for Week 7 due to thumb injury
Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields‘ status for Week 7 is officially up in the air. Head coach Matt Eberflus shared on Monday that the former first-rounder is doubtful due to the thumb injury he suffered against the Minnesota Vikings. Fields attempted to play through the injury after a quick fix on his dislocated digit, but ultimately couldn’t continue.
“It’s really going to come down to grip strength,” Eberflus said, via Ian Rapoport.
The quarterback was scheduled for an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of his injury. The Bears face the 3-3 Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
Prior to his exit, Fields completed 6-of-10 passes for 58 yards with an interception. He also rushed for 46 yards on eight carries. Tyson Bagent replaced the former Ohio State standout following the injury.
Bagent threw for 83 yards and a pick while completing 10-of-14 throws. He also had a rushing touchdown. The Bears lost a 19-13 decision to the Vikings to fall to 1-5 on the year.
Fields, a first-round selection by the Bears in the 2021 NFL Draft, is in his third season in Chicago. After Sunday’s loss to Minnesota, he now owns a 6-25 record as a starting quarterback in the league.

NFL suffers rash of injuries to stars in Week 6
The NFL had a rash of injuries to big-name stars during Week 6 games. Players like quarterbacks Justin Fields, Trevor Lawrence and Ryan Tannehill all suffered injuries that caused them to exit their games early on Sunday.
Lawrence is reportedly day-to-day with a knee injury leading up to a Thursday Night Matchup against the Saints this week. Lawrence was unable to finish his squad’s 37-20 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday afternoon after suffering the injury.
“Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence has an MRI on his knee, but he’s currently described as day-to-day, source said,” NFL insider Ian Rapoport shared Monday. “The belief is no major injury for Lawrence, who finished the game. It’s a quick turnaround for Thursday, but the hope is he’s OK for it.”
Tannehill had to take a cart after waiting several minutes for the crew in London to assist him off the field in the Sunday morning game. He suffered an apparent ankle injury in the fourth quarter with the Titans trailing the Ravens. The veteran was seen on crutches following the game, which ended with the Ravens on top 24-16, despite a valiant effort from backup QB Malik Willis that saw him take four sacks.
