Chicago Bears select Shemar Turner in second round of 2025 NFL Draft

The Chicago Bears have selected Texas A&M defensive tackle Shemar Turner in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He was taken with the 62nd overall pick in the draft.
Turner, 22, was a three-year starter for the Aggies after coming into the program ahead of the 2021 season. He suited up in 43 games throughout his collegiate career, recording 115 combined tackles, 24 tackles for loss and 10 sacks.
His best season came as a junior in 2023, when he tallied a career-high six sacks and 11 tackles for loss. That season, Turner earned Second Team All-SEC honors.
Turner had to pull out of the Senior Bowl due to a stress fracture that never fully healed. He participated in Texas A&M’s Pro Day but did not run the 40-yard dash.
As a recruit, Turner was ranked as a five-star prospect and the No. 13 overall recruit in the 2021 class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. Turner checked in as the No. 5 defensive lineman in the class and No. 4 overall player from the state of Texas, hailing from DeSoto High School (DeSoto, Texas).

What NFL Draft analysts are saying about Shemar Turner
Turner has a lot of experience playing inside. But he’s a bit of a “tweener,” NFL Network‘s Lance Zierlein wrote in evaluating him.
“Three-year starter with “tweener” measurables but excellent musculation and lean mass,” Zierlein wrote. “Turner plays with unlimited activity and a heavy dose of violence. He has a quick first step and an explosive punch. He’s capable of holding the point against single blocks or working the gaps with foot quickness.
“His pressure rate is hurt by a lack of length but he’s a restless rusher who hunts blockers’ edges and will eventually leak through if the play extends. His athleticism and chase quickness will see him in or near the pile with some frequency as a future starter.
