Bears TE Robert Tonyan reacts to teammate Justin Jones' comments trashing Packers fans
In the wake of some derogatory comments made by Bears defensive tackle Justin Jones trashing Packers fans, former Green Bay tight end Robert Tonyan is backing his new teammate.
Tonyan called Jones’ comments, which included calling Packers fans “sh****” and “just friggin’ obnoxious,” funny.
“JJ is a little opinionated and I like that,” Tonyan said, according to Yahoo! Sports. “…but you could say anything about any fanbase.”
Despite Tonyan’s attempts to downplay Jones’ comments, they are likely to fuel a rivalry that rarely needs any additional kindling. Jones did not hold back when going after Packers fans.
The second-year Bears player let loose trashing Packers fans and the cross-division rival, who beat the Bears last season in Week 2.
“They won, but their fans are really sh*tty,” Jones said. “I’m ready to take it over (the NFC North). It’s a good time to be a Bears fan, I’m not gonna lie to you.

“They’re just friggin’ obnoxious. Just yelling about things that don’t even matter. Half of them don’t even know football. It’s so weird to me.”
Both teams are undergoing a bit of a rebuild this offseason, with Chicago coming off a three-win season and Green Bay having to replace star quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who departed for the New York Jets this offseason.
As always, you can expect the rivalry game to be fierce.
And fans won’t have to wait long to watch it and see whether Jones’ comments trashing Packers fans make things particularly edgy this season, with the two squads set to meet in the regular season opener on Sept. 10.
Jones left no ambiguity about how important this one is to him.
“I want to go out there and beat the hell out of them, and hear their fans boo,” he said.
The rivalry between Chicago and Green Bay goes back a long time, with 206 meetings between the two. Green Bay currently holds a 105-95-6 edge in the series. The first meeting came all the way back in 1921.
