Chiefs DT Tershawn Wharton saves young fan falling from stands after Panthers game
Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton saved a young fan who fell from the stands after the game against the Carolina Panthers. The fan was looking to get gloves from Wharton before falling over the barrier. Wharton caught him before he hit the ground and suffered any serious injuries.
The incident happened after the Chiefs defeated the Panthers in Charlotte 30-27. Wharton finished the day with two tackles and one quarterback hit. In 11 games this year, the 26-year-old defensive lineman has recorded 19 tackles, three tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.
Wharton, who played college football at Missouri S&T, signed with the Chiefs in 2020 as an undrafted free agent. He’s been a steady hand on the defensive line, helping the team win back-to-back Super Bowls. During his time at Missouri S&T, Wharton recorded 58 tackles for loss, 35.5 sacks and was named to the Division II All-America team in 2018.
“I think it was definitely a thought [to transfer],” Wharton said in a press conference with reporters in 2020, per Sports Illustrated. “It crossed my mind a few times, thinking about coming to play at Mizzou. I think that I just stuck with it at S&T. The coaches loved me, and I think it was a mutual respect with each other, so I just stayed there.”

Can Tershawn Wharton help the Chiefs win another Super Bowl?
Wharton is part of a 2024 Chiefs team that has a 10-1 record and looks poised to reach the Super Bowl for the third consecutive season. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has led the Chiefs to three Super Bowl wins, which has led to him being compared to Tom Brady.
Last month, Brady, who works for Fox Sports, spoke to Mahomes about the comparisons. “It’s honestly an honor,” Mahomes said. “I’m not saying that because you’re sitting here. You did it the right way. I think more than even the Super Bowls, it was the consistency you showed every single year, every single day. You came to work, and you came to win. For me, it gives me something to chase [getting to seven Super Bowl championships]. It’s going to be hard to get there, but I’ll do my best trying to get there.”
