Chiefs HC Andy Reid says WR Kadarius Toney's injury is 'not made up'
Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has addressed the claim made by receiver Kadarius Toney Sunday that the team is lying about his injury status.
Reid, speaking with the media Monday following Kansas City’s 17-10 AFC Championship Game win over the Baltimore Ravens, said that Toney’s injury is, in fact, real and that the team did not file an erroneous injury report.
“He’s been on the injury report, [so] that part is not made up by any means,” Reid said, via Adam Teicher of ESPN.
Toney, who has reportedly been sidelined with a hip and ankle injury, went on a vulgar rant on his Instagram Live explaining that he’s not hurt.
“Man, that s*** cap,” Toney said. “I’m not hurt. None of that s***. Save that s***.”
Toney, 25, has been absent for the last six games going back to the regular season. The former first-round pick has hauled in 27 receptions for 169 yards and a single score.

The Chiefs ruled out Toney for Sunday’s game, listing hip/personal as the reason. Toney had his first child Saturday night, which is where the personal part of the designation came from. Reid noted he hasn’t seen Toney’s post but was told about it. He added that he is “working through some things,” and will be with the team for Thursday’s practice.
Chiefs set for Super Bowl rematch vs. 49ers, with or without Kadarius Toney
Though Toney’s season has been uneven, he came up clutch for Kansas City in last year’s Super Bowl victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. Toney hauled in a touchdown and returned a punt 65 yards to set up another score.
The Chiefs are headed to the Super Bowl for the fourth time in six seasons, this time drawing a Super Bowl LIV rematch against the San Francisco 49ers. Kansas City picked up a 31-20 win when the two teams met four years ago.
“The best part is we’re not done yet,” Reid said. “We’ve got another game. You love these seasons to carry on as long as they can possibly carry on. We’re there. [But] now we’ve got to get right back at it.”
