Chiefs owner Clark Hunt reacts to NFL fans tired of Kansas City dynasty

Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt understands that NFL fans want their dynasty to end. While speaking to reporters during Super Bowl LIX Opening Night on Monday, Hunt was asked what he would say to fans who are tired of seeing the Chiefs winning.
“I think it’s natural,” Hunt said, per Daniel Roberts of Front Office Sports. “We certainly saw it with the Patriots when they were on their almost two-decade run as the best team in the National Football League. It’s fun looking back five or six years ago when we made Super Bowl 54, it really felt like we had a lot of the country behind us, and that’s maybe shifted. …Fans want to see their team have an opportunity. They don’t like the same team always being on top.”
The Chiefs have been on top of the NFL since Patrick Mahomes took over as the starting QB in 2018. Kansas City is getting ready to play in its fifth Super Bowl in six seasons and has won three championships during that span. The Chiefs are looking to be the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowls.
Clark Hunt shares more on the Chiefs’ dynasty
As Hunt mentioned, the Chiefs’ dynasty comes as the Patriots won six Super Bowls from 2001-2018. Like the Chiefs, New England was led by a successful quarterback in Tom Brady. Overall, the Patriots played in nine Super Bowls and appeared in 13 AFC Championship games.

After the Chiefs won the Super Bowl last season, head coach Andy Reid was asked if the team had become a dynasty. “It’s a little bit surreal,” Reid said, per the Associated Press. “I don’t know what a dynasty is. You guys have the thesaurus, so you can figure it out. It’s a great win because I know how hard it is to do and how hard the season was, the ups and downs of the season, and how proud I am of the guys for just hanging with each other and staying positive with each other.”
Ultimately, the Chiefs try to put together a team that is a consistent winner. “We’ve tried to be thoughtful about making sure we’re giving ourselves the best chance to win this year, but also putting ourselves in a position where we can win next year and the year after that,” Clark Hunt said, per ESPN. “We want to put the best team we can on the field every year.”
