Chiefs rookie Xavier Worthy proposes to track star Tia Jones before training camp
Kansas City Chiefs rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy got down on one knee this weekend to propose to his girlfriend, hurdler Tia Jones. Jones, who was an Olympic hopeful competing in the 100m hurdles during the trials leading up to the Paris Games this summer, accepted the proposal.
Worthy and Jones shared footage of the special occasion on their Instagram pages. In the video, the Chiefs first-round pick walks his new fiancee down the beach to a red carpet made of roses before popping the question. The scene was set with huge light-up letters that read: “Marry Me.” Once married, the duo will undoubtedly be one of the fastest pairs on the planet.
The happy couple recently revealed on social media that they’ve bought a home together and plan to share updates on their lives together on Youtube.
Worthy ready for rookie season
In April, the Chiefs traded up to select Worthy, the former Texas Longhorn, in the first round of the draft. He thrilled coaches and scouts at the NFL Combine when he ran a 4.21-second time in the 40-yard dash. The time was the best ever run at the Indianapolis Combine.
Meanwhile, Jones is the world record holder in the 60m indoor hurdles. She clocked a 12.61 100m dash during the preliminaries at the Olympic trials but dropped out before the semifinals.
During his collegiate career, Worthy started 39 games in three seasons with the Longhorns. He made an immediate impact, catching 26 touchdown passes, which ranks third in school history. His career yardage of 2,755 ranks fourth. He caught 197 passes in his career, which ended up as sixth best in Longhorn history.

Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is thrilled to be working with the speedy youngster. He praised his team for their acquisitions this offseason.
“It’s unbelievable that (general manager Brett) Veach finds ways to bring in – not only guys that have talent, that have unbelievable skill sets but are good people.” Kelce told reporters. “Just being able to get to know them (Hollywood Brown and Worthy) over this offseason, it’s just been cool that Hollywood and X are just – they’re down to earth, humble guys and they love coming to work and they love football.
“When you bring that kind of mentality into a building that has that culture already set, the sky is the limit for those guys. I’m excited that they’re here.”
Worthy and the Chiefs start prepping for their run at what would be a third straight Super Bowl on July 21. That day marks the start of training camp in St. Joseph, Mo.
