The Kansas City Chiefs dealt with a myriad of travel issues ahead of their clash with the Denver Broncos in Week 18, and they’re still plaguing the team as of Monday afternoon.

According to NFL reporter Albert Breer, the team is still in Denver following their loss on Sunday afternoon, due to inclement weather. As they look to return to Kansas City, they’re en route to the airport, with hopes of returning home by midday, but nothing is guaranteed at the moment.

“The Chiefs are still on the ground in Denver,” Breer reported. “Because of storms, the Kansas City airport was closed last night. The team is on a bus en route to the Denver airport now—hoping to get back to Missouri in midday.”

A winter storm has caused issues for travelers throughout the Kansas City area, and it almost derailed the Chiefs trip to Denver as a whole prior to their Week 18 game. It certainly wasn’t ideal circumstances for the franchise, and they seemed to sleepwalk through Sunday’s game, as the Broncos dominated the rag-tag group, as Kansas City rested most of their starting lineup.

The situation as a whole has the team thanking their lucky stars that they clinched a first-round bye in the AFC during Week 17. Travel issues be damned, as the Chiefs can take the week to prepare for their opponent in the AFC Divisional Round.

There’s been no Super Bowl hangover for the reigning, defending back-to-back champions of the football world. With the AFC having to go through Arrowhead moving forward, it’s easy to see why Kansas City is the favorite of many to get to the Super Bowl once again.

It’s anyone’s guess what happens if they get there, but you can bet against Patrick Mahomes and company at your own risk. It’s something that hasn’t exactly been fruitful if you’ve tried that strategy over the past couple of seasons.

All told, the Chiefs are eager to get home, and while a winter storm is delaying their trip, at least they’ll have plenty of time between now and the next time they’re on the playing field. That certainly bodes well for their Super Bowl prospects in 2025.
