Chiefs tackle Jawaan Taylor carted off practice field at training camp
Practice on Wednesday began as usual for Chiefs offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor, but now there are injury concerns for the former Florida Gator. Taylor was carted off the practice field at training camp Wednesday, riding in the front seat of the medical cart back to the team’s facility.
Reporters at training camp have yet to verify the reason for Taylor’s early exit from practice. He doesn’t participate in one-on-one drills before leaving the field.
Taylor, originally a second-round draft pick for the Jacksonville Jaguars out of Florida, is in his second year with the Kansas City Chiefs. Last March, he signed a massive four-year deal with Kansas City for $80 million. It was the biggest deal of his career yet, following his rookie contract that was for four years, $7.82 million.
Since arriving in Kansas City, Taylor has secured his role as the team’s starting right tackle. On the opposite side of the line, there’s competition. Rookie tackle Kingsley Suamataia is vying to take over the team’s open starting job at left tackle, fending off Wanya Morris. With Taylor out at practice, Lucas Niang filled in at right tackle.
Chiefs still waiting on word regarding Rashee Rice’s potential suspension
As the regular season news, the Kansas City Chiefs are still waiting for word on whether the NFL will punish second-year wide receiver Rashee Rice following his offseason troubles. Andy Reid gave a report on the latest as the Kansas City Chiefs reported to training camp earlier this month.

While speaking to reporters, the Chiefs head coach was asked if he heard anything about Rice possibly being suspended by the NFL.
“I haven’t heard anything at this point,” Reid said. The offseason hasn’t been a memorable one for Rice. The young wide receiver is facing eight charges related to a multi-car accident in March and was reportedly also a suspect in an assault that occurred at a Dallas nightclub in May.
Last month, ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler reported that Rice is facing a multi-game suspension from the NFL.
“This is a lengthy legal process, which means he could start the season, actually play games or finish the whole year, because the league likes to see the full scope of things before they make a decision on how many games a player might face,” Fowler said. “We saw that with Alvin Kamara a couple of years ago when he had his battery charges. He played the whole year then was suspended for the next year. So that is a possibility that the Chiefs are bracing for here, they just don’t know.”
Rice was selected by the Chiefs in the second round of last year’s NFL Draft and playing college football at SMU. He played in 16 regular season games and caught 79 passes for 938 yards and seven touchdowns. In four postseason games, Rice tallied 262 yards and one touchdown on 26 receptions which is playoff rookie record.
