Chris Buescher on late-race contact with Tyler Reddick: 'We got wrecked'
Another week and another heartbreak for Chris Buescher and the 17 team. This time, it happened late at Darlington while leading. The NASCAR driver had it locked up until a move from Tyler Reddick.
Chris Buescher and Tyler Reddick were battling for many laps. Brad Keselowski was in the mix as well. Reddick sent it in deep going into the corner and couldn’t make the pass on him. Both drivers made contact and Buescher got into the wall.
It ultimately opened the door for Brad Keselowski to take the lead and win. For Buescher, seeing his boss break his 110-race winless streak is little consolation in this situation. Buescher even got in Reddick’s face after the race.
“We got wrecked. That one’s clear as day,” Chris Buescher said after the race. “Don’t need any cameras to tell us. But, I don’t know what to say. We’ve raced each other really clean through the years, try to be really respectful about it and we get used up. It’s something that you just know is not going to work. Just really pissed off about it right now. We certainly had a chance to win another one. I’m really proud to have that speed.

“Huge congratulations to Brad and the six bunch and Castrol on their win. That’s awesome but I wanted it for our Fifth Third Bank Group right here. Felt like we got used up. He knows he messed up, he said it. But it doesn’t change anything for us. I told him he’s got a win sticker on the door and we’re still trying to find ours. We get used up like that, take away those opportunities, it’s tough. That’s two weeks in a row we’ve had a shot to win races. One I’m going to live in my head forever on what I would have done different and this one here I needed someone else to be more mature about it.”
Chris Buescher had the lead. Then it all went away in the blink of an eye. The last two weeks have ended in pain for Buescher. The only thing he can do is hope that he has speed in two weeks at Charlotte.
Drivers have to deal with losses more times than not. Buescher could taste victory. Reddick came in and put that taste into the wall. Next week is the All-Star Race. Drivers will be able to calm down and not take it so seriously.
Chris Buescher lost today. He can’t let this loss turn into more losses.
