Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-3) receiver Chris Godwin was carted off the field after suffering a leg injury in the fourth quarter of Monday’s 41-31 Week 7 home defeat to the Baltimore Ravens (5-2).

Godwin sustained the injury with 43 seconds remaining on Tampa Bay’s final offensive drive of the game, an injury too gruesome for the ESPN broadcast to show. The 28-year-old had his leg in air cast. Godwin’s injury occurred at a time where the Buccaneers were down by 10 in the waning seconds of the game.

He came down with a completion on third-and-17 and was tackled by Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith. Godwin’s ankle rolled up underneath him as Smith brought him to the ground.

Head coach Todd Bowles said after the game that early indications are that Godwin suffered a dislocated ankle. If that’s the case, the Buccaneers, who already lost fellow star wideout Mike Evans to a hamstring injury earlier in the game, will be without Godwin for the remainder of the season.

Buccaneers visibly shaken up after Chris Godwin injury

Godwin shared an emotional moment with quarterback Baker Mayfield before leaving the field.

Godwin came into the game having hauled in 43 receptions for 511 yards and five touchdowns. He reeled in seven catches for 65 yards against Baltimore. Godwin had been one of the most productive receivers in football this season. He looked primed for a big payday in the offseason.

Godwin, who has spent the entirety of his seven-year career with the Buccaneers, is scheduled to be unrestricted free agent after the season. The 2019 Pro Bowler previously tore his ACL in December 2021 in a game against the New Orleans Saints (2-5).
