Chris Paul, Victor Wembanyama disqualified from NBA skills competition following bizarre hack attempt

Chris Paul and Victor Wembanyama thought they could fool the NBA skills competition on Saturday night in San Francisco. They decided to not take shots during the contest, chucking the balls in the air, so they could get quicker times. However, not only did the hilarious tactic not work, but it got them both completely disqualified from the competition.

Following the skills challenge, Draymond Green actually vouched for Wembanyama, saying he saw him ask several officials if he could use the strategy. Either way, it’s not exactly a great look for a league, when the future face of it is trying to game the All-Star Skills competition.

Wembanyama has racked up an extensive amount of hardware in just a few years in the NBA. He brought home Rookie of the Year honors in 2024, after he finished with 21.4 points per game, 10.6 rebounds per game, 3.6 blocks per game (leading the league), and 1.2 steals per game. he played in 71 games during his rookie campaign, averaging 29.7 minutes per outing.

A phenomenal defender, the French star also earned NBA All-Defensive First Team honors in 2024. He finished second in the voting for the 2024 Defensive Player of the Year honors. In 2025, he was named an All-Star, averaging 24.3 points per outing, 11.0 rebounds per outing, 3.7 assists, and 3.8 blocks. He’s currently listed at 7-3, 235 pounds, ranking him among some of the tallest players ever to suit up in the NBA.

In the 2024 Olympic Games, Wembanyama led France to a silver medal, one of their best finishes. In the gold medal game against Team USA, he finished with 26 points, seven rebounds, and two assists. In his debut, he stuffed the stat sheet with 19 points, nine rebounds, three blocks, and four steals. Among other accomplishments, he became the first player under 22 years old combining for 15-plus points, 10-plus rebounds, and 5-plus assists in a game at the Olympics. In one game, he had 18 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists.

The 2025 NBA All-Star Game Tournament starts at 8:00 PM EST on Sunday, February 16th. The event will be televised on TNT and TruTV.
