Christian McCaffrey injury update: Kyle Shanahan reveals 49ers RB's practice status
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan shared some encouraging news of Christian McCaffrey‘s injury. He told reporters on Wednesday that the superstar running back will be limited in practice after missing the team’s season opener against the New York Jets on Monday night due to an injured Achilles and calf. Shanahan said McCaffrey is not considered a candidate for injured reserve.
The news of McCafrrey not playing on Monday night surprised many as there was no indication he would be inactive. When speaking to reporters on Wednesday, the Stanford alum revealed when he knew he wasn’t going to play against the Jets.
“On Monday morning, just moving around a little bit. I prepare every week to play. My mindset every week is I want to play,” McCaffrey said, per Sports Illustrated. “There have been weeks where I’ll go the full week not even feeling good enough to do the walk-through, and then I wake up and my body is capable of a lot of cool things. Mentally, I’m always prepared to play in the game. But it was a group decision, a very tough one. I hate not playing. I look at it as a chess move and something that hopefully we can benefit from the rest of the season.”

Will Christian McCaffrey play against Minnesota Vikings?
McCaffrey was also asked about his status for the 49ers, Week 2 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. “My mentality is I’m playing this week,” he said. “That’s where I’m at. That’s how I am every week. I’m not lying. As soon as a player says maybe I’ll play, maybe I won’t, that’s not a good mentality to go into a week with when you’re on the fence. I’m ready to go.”
