After recently dealing for Panthers’ superstar running back Christian McCaffrey in one of the biggest blockbuster trades of the season, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan is wasting no time in utilizing his shiny new toy. McCaffrey achieved the touchdown triple crown on Sunday against the LA Rams–with a passing touchdown, receiving touchdown, and rushing touchdown all in the same game.

Check it out as he takes the handoff from Jimmy Garoppolo and punches it in from the one-yard line.

He became the first player since 2005 to throw a touchdown, catch a touchdown, and rush for a touchdown in the same game. The last player to do so was Hall-of-Famer LaDainian Tomlinson for the San Diego Chargers.

McCaffrey’s first touchdown was the pass. He took a pitch from Jimmy Garoppolo, and beautifully lofted a throw to receiver Brandon Aiyuk for a 34-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Then in the third quarter, he reeled in a nine-yard pass from Garoppolo. McCaffrey made a beautiful leap for the grab and made it look rather routine, when it was anything but simple.

The 49ers blew out the Rams on Sunday with a 31-14 beatdown. San Francisco has now won eight straight regular season games against the Rams.

Christian McCaffrey was one of the greatest college running backs of all-time during his days with the Stanford Cardinal

Christian McCaffrey finished his college career at Stanford as one of the most decorated running backs to ever play the game. While he didn’t win the Heisman Trophy, in 2015 he broke Barry Sanders single-season all-purpose yardage record of 3,250 rushing yards he set in 1998.

The record was considered one of the most difficult records for any record back to break and McCaffrey found a way to do it. In 2015, he shredded opposing defenses to the tune of 3,864 all-purpose yards. He rushed for over 2,000 rushing yards in that season, while racking up over 1,000 yards on kick returns. His 1,070 kick return yards were the third most in school history. At the time, he became one of only two FBS players to tally over 3,500 rushing yards, while hauling in over 1,200 receiving yards.

He was named first team All-American in 2015 both as a kick returner and a running back. The accolades for his 2015 season are nearly endless; he was named Associated Press Player of the Year, Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year and the Rose Bowl Offensive MVP.

High school bio

A former selection to the U.S. Army All-American game, McCaffrey was one of the most highly sought after running backs in the country coming out of high school. The Colorado native was rated as one of the top running backs in America and chose Stanford over Arizona State, Boise State, Colorado and Colorado State. He was rated as a four-star running back coming out of Valor Christian (Littleton, Colorado).
