For the first time in a few years, Joe Gibbs Racing drivers like Christopher Bell are going to be able to go dirt racing again. Coach Gibbs has lifted his restriction on the more risky sprint car races for his NASCAR drivers.

With Chase Briscoe coming to JGR next season this change makes sense. Christopher Bell and Briscoe are big into dirt racing. They field cars as team owners. Now they are free to hit the track again.

The news came out today after a report from Jeff Gluck of The Athletic. Bell is excited, to say the least.

“See you guys at a dirt track soon,” Bell wrote on Twitter in response to the news.

Christopher Bell is a very talented sprint car racer. He had battles with Kyle Larson over the years that delighted and thrilled fans. I am sure he is itching to get back to the small dirt tracks around the country. Maybe even a Chili Bowl appearance?

This is a good decision from Joe Gibbs. He will let drivers request which races they want to compete in and if they get permission, they are good to go. This is going to more or less be a rubber stamp process with a few exceptions for certain races and tracks where wrecks are more common.

After his disappointing end to the season, Bell might be looking to even the score anywhere and everywhere he can.

Christopher Bell felt cheated after Martinsville

In the aftermath of the Martinsville race manipulation/wall ride controversy, Christopher Bell ended up getting the short end of the stick. His wall ride in Turn 4, at the very least, gave NASCAR an out in a difficult situation.

Bell had strong comments in Phoenix about the Martinsville race. He talked about manipulation and even used the term “race fixing.” Strong words from the JGR driver, but understandable from his point of view.

With Bell able to race dirt again, I think we could see a new and improved racer. He has been one of the best in the Next Gen era, arguably the best Gibbs driver in that time. With extra races and a little bit of fun every now and then, maybe Bell can take it to another level.

A lot of people credit Kyle Larson’s talents to how much he races and all of his dirt racing. Could Christopher Bell tap into that as well in the next few years and elevate his performance in the stock car?
