It’s not often that the Cincinnati Reds get the opportunity to troll other MLB teams. So, when they do, they have to make sure they’re well prepared. After sweeping both the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers this season, the Reds had something ready.

Sunday, the Reds completed a three-game sweep of the Astros with a 9-7 victory in 10 innings. They won the previous two games by scores of 2-1 and 10-3.

After notching the sweep, Cincinnati’s social media team trolled both the Astros and the Rangers — which they swept back in April. Essentially, it was a massive shot at the entire state of Texas.

To make it even more perfect, the trolling came in the form of a SpongeBob meme:

In late April, the Reds swept the Rangers in three intriguing games. Cincinnati posted back-to-back 7-6 victories in the first two contests before a 5-3 win to close out the series.

Believe it or not, the Reds actually do have some room to talk. Not only did they sweep both Texas teams, they’re in the middle of an eight-game winning streak and sit just a half-game out of the NL Central.

So, go ahead and live it up, Cincinnati. You’ve earned the right to chirp a little on social media. We know it’s been a while.

Elly De La Cruz continues to impress for Reds

A lot of Cincinnati’s recent success stems from the incredible play of Elly De La Cruz, who has been phenomenal since getting the call up on June 6. On Sunday, he showed off some incredible speed on what should’ve been an easy out.

De La Cruz legged out what should’ve been an easy out for the Astros. He beat Jose Abreu to the bag, despite the first baseman being just a few feet away. Here’s the incredible play:

De La Cruz put it all on the line for his team. Other guys might’ve jogged down the line and not gotten the base.

In 11 big league games, De La Cruz has recorded 12 hits in 44 plate appearances. He’s also smashed a home run and recorded five RBIs. He’s still got plenty of learning to do in the MLB, but early in his career, he’s already turning some heads.

The Reds have a series against the Colorado Rockies before two tough matchups with the Atlanta Braves and Baltimore Orioles to close out the month of June. We’ll find out pretty quickly if Cincinnati has turned a corner.
