Cincinnati Reds victory fireworks drown out nearby Taylor Swift concert at inopportune time
Taylor Swift fans were gifted a unique version of her hit song Red during the pop superstar’s recent concert in Cincinnati.
Her Night 1 performance coincided with a routine display of winning fireworks at Great American Ball Park following the Reds’ 7-5 victory in 11 innings over the San Diego Padres on Friday night. The Reds traditionally shoot off fireworks after every home win — and all of the Swifties next door at Paycor Stadium (or Tay-Cor Stadium, as it was renamed for the event) were not happy about it.
The ‘Red’ songstress continued about her performance as if the loud bangs from the fireworks didn’t phase her. After all, she’s a pro. Even during a stage malfunction on Night 2 that forced her to sprint off stage in time for a wardrobe change — she kept her composure. The burning red fireworks can be seen below, courtesy of a fan on Tik Tok.
Just as Swift slowed things down at her concert, Reds slugger Spencer Steer belted a walk-off two-run home run in extra innings to give Cincinnati a series-opening victory.
Swift returned to the home of the Cincinnati Bengals once again on Saturday night — and luckily the Reds vs. Padres had already come and gone, having thrown the first pitch at 1:40 p.m. ET. Regardless, there was no firework display in the first place after the Padres stomped on the Reds en route to a 12-5 victory.
The Taylor Swift concert went off without a hitch, despite being pushed forward due to expected inclement weather in the area.

Still, Reds fans will tell you that Swift shouldn’t have scheduled her concert during the team’s hottest streak in decades.
Between June 10 and June 24, Cincinnati won 12 consecutive games — the longest winning streak in the modern era. The 1939 and 1957 Reds teams are the only others to equal that. They eventually came up just shy of the top organization records of 13 wins (1890) and 14 wins (1899). Though, I’d say the 2023 Reds probably have a leg-up on the teams predating the Model T.
It’s no coincidence the streak coincides with the call-up of rookie sensation Elly De La Cruz. In 22 games played since his call-up, De La Cruz has put together a .293 batting average to go with three home runs and 12 RBIs. He has logged 27 hits, 11 of which have gone for extra bases and has been walked seven times through 92 total at-bats.
With De La Cruz leading the charge at the plate, the Reds and Padres’ Game 3 rubber match is set for a 1:40 p.m. ET start, though rain and potential thunderstorms are expected to continue in Cincinnati through the scheduled first pitch.
