The Detroit Lions have received some good news as it pertains to C.J. Gardner-Johnson. Although the safety appeared to suffer a significant injury during training camp, it’s not quite as serious as previously anticipated.

Gardner-Johnson was carted off the practice field after a non-contact injury to his right leg. Usually, that’s a pretty bad sign. But ESPN’s Field Yates provided a positive update.

“The MRI on Lions S C.J. Gardner-Johnson revealed no structural damage to his knee and he is considered day-to-day at this time, I’m told,” he reported.

Earlier reports indicated that Gardner-Johnson could potentially miss significant time. The defensive back’s reaction to the injury prompted many to speculate the injury might have been more serious.

“Veteran Lions DB C.J. Gardner-Johnson went down with a right leg injury Monday & was carted off the field,” insider Tim Twentyman wrote on Twitter. “He was visibly upset and team captains Buggs and Goff made it a point to go comfort him. Hoping for better news than it looked.”

Gardner-Johnson agreed to a one-year deal with the Lions for $8 million. He spent last season with the Philadelphia Eagles, helping the team reach Super Bowl LVII. The defensive back played his first three NFL seasons with the New Orleans Saints.

Last season, Gardner-Johnson played a key role in Philadelphia’s secondary. He concluded the year with 61 tackles and six interceptions on eight passes defended. It was his most productive season in the NFL.

Before suiting up for the Eagles, Gardner Johnson spent three years with the Saints. In that time, the defensive back racked up 161 tackles, 28 passes defended and five interceptions.

C.J. Gardner-Johnson rips Eagles fans

Gardner-Johnson recently opened up on his dislike for Eagles fans. A bit of a surprise after becoming a fan favorite in 2022.

While playing an online video game, someone paid $5 for Gardner-Johnson to answer a question. The individual asked for the defensive back to tell the world what his least-favorite thing was about Philadelphia. He didn’t hold back.

Like … at all.

“The people,” Gardner-Johnson responded. “They’re f***ing obnoxious. I f***ing can’t stand the f***ers.”

After hearing his comments about the people within the city, we’re guessing Philadelphia isn’t too upset by his departure. And if Eagles fans were discouraged, they probably got over it after seeing that video.

We have to admit, though, the individual who paid for the respond got his money’s worth. That was $5 well spent.
