CJ Gardner-Johnson speaks out after getting ejected from Eagles-Commanders game
Philadelphia Eagles safety CJ Gardner-Johnson sounded off after he was ejected from Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders. On X, Gardner-Johnson said he was kicked out for no reason.
“Respectfully got kicked out for nothing, I play with passion and fire!!” Gardner-Johnson wrote. “Guys was chirping all day what u expect!!”
In the second half of the NFC East contest, Gardner-Johnson was disqualified after being penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct. The former Florida Gators star was seen verbally going after Commanders players, and it was his second unsportsmanlike penalty of the day. The other came in the first quarter, and NFL rules state a player is disqualified after they are hit with two unsportsmanlike penalties in one game.
As Gardner-Johnson exited the field, he gave the double middle finger to Commanders fans. He is now tied for second in the NFL for the most unsportsmanlike penalties with two.
CJ Gardner-Johnson says he ‘should have never left’ the Eagles
While Gardner-Johnson was frustrated by getting ejected, he did get an interception in the Eagles’ loss to the Commanders. He now has four interceptions on the year and is tied with Reed Blakenship for the most picks on the team. Before the 2024 season, Gardner-Johnson signed a three-year contract with the Eagles after spending the 2023 season with the Detroit Lions. This is the 27-year-old’s second stint with the Eagles as he was with the team in 2022.

“I should have never left,” Gardner-Johnson said after signing with the Eagles in March, per the team’s official website. “I want to finish something I started. I think coming here and doing things with the guys I started with, getting to a level most guys can’t make it to, I think coming home and playing with a group that’s ready to get back where we were and just continue to be great.
“I like being pushed when I walk through those doors, pushed to be great and held to a standard. I think that’s why I’m here. I know that’s why I’m here.”
Gardner-Johnson will be a key defensive player for the Eagles’ two games of the regular season. They have already clinched a playoff spot, but the Eagles are looking to clinch the NFC East with one more win and possibly clinch a first-round bye in the postseason if they win out.
