Cleveland Browns announce second-round pick taken to hospital

The Cleveland Browns announced following their game Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers that one of their young stars was taken to a local hospital. Linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah suffered a throat contusion and was taken as a precaution to the hospital for further evaluation.

It wasn’t immediately clear when Owusu-Koramoah suffered the injury to his throat, but following the Browns 47-42 loss to the Chargers he was taken to a hospital nearby SoFi Stadium. Although he was taken in an ambulance, a team official stated that the hospital trip was a precaution and for further evaluation.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow suffered the same injury on Sunday that required him to be taken to a hospital as well. In Burrow’s case, he was not available for postgame media appearances and had difficulty speaking.

Owusa-Koramoah recorded four tackles and recovered a fumble in the Browns’ loss, giving the rookie 16 tackles on the season as he has played in every game for the Browns.

Drafted with the 52nd overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Owusa-Koramoah has made an immediate impact for the Browns. The former Notre Dame star had a fantastic 2020 season before being drafted, winning the Butkus award and named Consensus All-American.

Burrow suffers similar injury

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow went to the hospital after the loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday afternoon, according to the Bengals.

Burrow may have a throat contusion, a severe bruise/injury, which may have occurred when he took a big hit from Packers safety Darnell Savage in the second quarter.

Joe Burrow scrambled on third down and took a walloping from Savage instead of sliding.

The former first-round draft pick was able to walk off the field and to the sideline under his own power as the Packers led 9-7.

Burrow got the thumbs up from the Bengals medical staff to re-enter the game for the next drive.

The former national championship winner from LSU answered with a 70-yard bomb to his Tigers teammate Ja’Marr Chase to bring the Bengals within a field goal. Burrow went 26-for-38 on the day for 281 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. The Packers won 25-22 in overtime.

After the game, the quarterback had trouble speaking, so he did not participate in media availability.
