Cade York has potential game-winning FG blocked, refuses to doubt himself
Cleveland Browns kicker Cade York had the unthinkable occur on Saturday as the Kansas City Chiefs blocked his game-winning field goal attempt. The unlucky ending came after the Browns lost in a similar fashion last week.
York’s teammates had his back but he told reporters after the loss that he isn’t looking for pity.
“To be honest, people gave me pats on the back and crap like that, but I hate pity,” York said, via the Akron Beacon Journal. “Pity pisses me off. I want to be a weapon. I know how good I am. That’s been the most frustrating thing the last month, struggling with that. So, the real games start soon. Just trying to take a running start into the season and just start putting them through all the time.”
Asked whether a shin injury played a role in his performance, York said it didn’t.
“No, it ended up being fine,” York said. “I got rolled up on. I think I was just scared when it happened more than how bad it really hurt. Ended up being lucky that it didn’t get worse, but it was all good. I ended up just kicking through it.”
After the Chiefs rallied to go ahead 30-29 in the fourth quarter, York hit a 40-yard field goal to grab the lead. The Chiefs answered then deflected York’s game-winning attempt with 53 seconds left.
York’s first season in the league was marred by inconsistency and misses. Browns fans’ patience has to be wearing even thinner with him after he missed not one, but two potential game-winning field goals last Thursday evening against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Browns stand by York
Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski said following the game last week that the franchise has no plans to add another kicker, per Ari Meirov of the33rdteam.com.

York went viral after sharing highlights of himself on his Instagram page during the Eagles-Browns game. Then, after he missed a potential game-winning field goal twice, he decided to delete the post. The Eagles were called for illegal formation after one of his misses and then he missed a second time. The game ended in an 18-18 tie.
Cade York was one of the best kickers in college football during his time with the LSU Tigers.
York was a savant for LSU, with a booming and accurate leg. During his time with the Tigers, the kicker made 54 of his 66 field goal attempts. Additionally, York was 15 of 19 on kicks from 50 yards or further, booming the 57-yard game-winner against Florida.
As far as extra points, the former Tigers kicker was near perfect, sinking 164 of 168 extra-point attempts for LSU.
