Browns drama surronding Odell Beckham Jr.'s status continues
Odell Beckham Jr. has been excused from Thursday’s practice, ESPN’s Jake Trotter confirmed today. As drama swirls around the Browns wide receiver, Beckham Jr. will miss practice for the second consecutive day.
The future is bleak for Beckham Jr. — at least in Cleveland. The situation conjures up memories of Randy Moss in Oakland or Terrell Owens in Philadelphia. Both wide receivers didn’t return to their previous teams after being sent away.
The firestorms stems from a lack of chemistry between Beckham Jr. and quarterback Baker Mayfield. While everyone could see things weren’t right, Beckham Jr.’s father expedited the process by positing a clip of Mayfield missing his open son on multiple occasions.
Even LeBron James got in on the action — taking to Twitter to state that the Browns need to free OBJ. Whether he meant giving him more targets or releasing him, the latter seems more likely at this point.
What’s next for Odell Beckham Jr.?
The Browns are delaying the inevitable by excusing Beckham Jr. from practice.
Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio detailed that the Browns options are limited. With the trade deadline by the wayside, Florio mentions that Cleveland’s options are to let him return to the team, to suspend him without pay for conduct detrimental to the team, or to release him.

By excusing him from practice, Florio mentions that the Browns are essentially suspending Beckham Jr. with pay. However, it’s not something Cleveland can do for the rest of the season.
By dragging out their eventual decision, the Browns aren’t looking great around the league. The drama needs a resolution. Right now, it would be shocking for Beckham Jr. to return to Cleveland.
Last season, the Browns were better off without Odell Beckham Jr. Evidently, it wasn’t a fluke — the relationship is one that simply wasn’t meant to be.
