Cleveland Browns: Former NFL guard responds to Jadeveon Clowney's diss
Earlier this week, Jadeveon Clowney started writing a check with his mouth, dissing an entire position group.
“We love that matchup,” Clowney stated, when asked about facing guards. “That guard position, they’re not real athletes down there.”
Ouch. The Cleveland Browns new acquistion just upset players on every team in the league, even his own. Now, a former guard turned NFL analyst is taking exception.
“I’m glad you love that matchup because guards love matching up with someone who is averaging 1.5 sacks over his last two seasons,” tweeted Geoff Schwartz, who played guard in the NFL for nine years. “Mutual feeling of love.”
While Clowney burned an entire position, Schwartz’ rebuttal on behalf of his former counterparts has got to sting. The former number one overall selection in the NFL Draft possesses amazing talent, but the sacks haven’t come easy for Clowney.
Perhaps Schwartz’ diss gives Clowney added motivation to back-up his claim. For sure, the former South Carolina defensive end will get the best effort of every guard he goes against in 2021.
Jadeveon Clowney and Myles Garrett
Moreover, what started the firestorm was a report that the Browns could elect to play Clowney on the same side of the defensive line as their star defensive end, Myles Garrett. Of course, that would give Clowney the juicy matchup with guards that he seeks.
If the plan comes to fruition, Clowney thinks that he is in a good position to win those battles regularly.

“We try to get in there and create those matchups for certain guys, and hopefully, we get some wins,” Clowney said.
“You’ve got to think different on the interior. Everything happens very, very fast down there. Those guys are much bigger down there. So, yes, your whole mindset has got to change in how you attack the quarterback, how you attack the guys down there.”
While Clowney’s mindset may change, his confidence is unwavering. Still, his ridiculous talent means you can never bet against him.
A Dangerous Duo
In his four-year career, Garrett has totaled 152 tackles, 42.5 sacks and 10 forced fumbles. He has at least ten sacks in each of the previous three seasons and at least seven sacks in each year of his career. The former Texas A&M product is one of the most explosive athletes off the edge, making him tough for quarterbacks to face up against.
While Clowney doesn’t have as many sacks in his career, he has shown to be a dangerous pass-rusher. In seven seasons, Clowney has 255 total tackles, 32 sacks, 10 forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries. The former South Carolina star can provide some of the NFL’s biggest hits, and he also has three touchdowns in his career.
If Jadeveon Clowney can continue to find his way alongside Garrett, the two could be a dangerous duo on what should be a good Browns’ defense. However, Geoff Schwartz would prefer him to chill with the guard slander.
