Report: Packers losing key special teamer to free agency
The Packers are losing one of their special teamers to the Browns. On Monday, Jake Trotter of ESPN reported Cleveland is signing former Green Bay punter Corey Bojorquez.
“#Browns signing former Packers punter Corey Bojorquez,” tweeted Trotter.
Since coming into the league out of New Mexico in 2018, Bojorquez has suited-up for four different teams. He started his time in the NFL with the New England Patriots, but was best known for his stint with the Buffalo Bills before joining the Packers. Now, Bojorquez has a shot to continue his career in Cleveland.
Over the course of his career, Bojorquez has hit 218 punts. The former New Mexico punter has accumulated 9,890 punt yards, with an average of 45.4 yards per punt. Additionally, his longest punt is a booming 82 yards, while he’s also had 92 punts downed inside the opponent’s 20 yard line.
Last season, Bojorquez had the longest punt of the entire NFL season with the aforementioned 82-yard bomb. Now, Corey Bojorquez will look to keep hitting booming punts with the Cleveland Browns.
More on Green Bay Packers
While the Packers lost Corey Bojorquez, Green Bay also lost of two of their top three receivers from the 2021 season. It’s no surprise that head coach Matt LaFleur is looking to the 2022 NFL Draft to make up for the lost talent.

“Certainly, if you look at our roster right now, we definitely need to get some speed in that room,” LaFleur said Tuesday at owner’s meetings in Palm Beach, Florida. “We need a legit guy that can take off the top of the coverage. We lost a guy that was pretty good at doing that.”
The Packers return second-leading receiver Allen Lazard, along with Randall Cobb, but traded Davante Adams and lost Marquez Valdes-Scantling to the Chiefs in free agency. Lazard posted 1,000 fewer yards than Adams and no one else was even close to the new Browns wideout’s 169 targets.
“It’s like putting a puzzle together; you’ve got to find those pieces that you’re missing and put it all together,” LaFleur added. “How that’s going to look in the end? I have no idea right now.”
As you can see, the Packers roster could look different in 2022. Time will tell how they go about replacing the talent they’ve lost on their way to an attempt to win another Super Bowl.
