Cleveland Guardians select Florida State pitcher commit Chase Mobley in 2024 MLB Draft
The Cleveland Guardians have selected Florida State Seminoles right-handed pitcher Chase Mobley in the 2024 MLB Draft.
Chase Mobley played his high school baseball at Durant High School in Plant City, Florida. It’s one of the state’s most successful programs at that level and he caught the attention of both MLB and college scouts, committing to pitch at Florida State.
At only 18 years old, Chase Mobley is already six-foot-five and 205 lbs. That’s ideal size for a pitcher and he takes advantage of that frame to throw 92 or 92 mph with consistency. However, he’s also shown the ability to throw much harder than that already. It also comes with some good movement, running on hitters. He combines that fastball with a curveball and a slider, though they often look similar and he may end up only using one or the other in the future. On top of that, he throws a split-changeup to keep batters off-balance.
Florida State is coming off its second season under head coach Link Jarrett. For one of college baseball’s proudest programs, it was an important bounce back season for the Seminoles after missing the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1977. So, going 49-17 and making it to Omaha for the College World Series was a big deal for the program.
Now, Chase Mobley is going to have an important decision to make. He can either sign and begin his journey as a professional baseball player or he can stick with his commitment and head to college to play for the Seminoles. During that time, he’d develop before potentially entering a future MLB Draft.

What scouts said about Chase Mobley before the draft
Ahead of the MLB Draft, Chase Mobley was listed as the 80th-best available player in the draft, according to MLB.com.
“Mobley screams projection with plenty of now stuff to interest scouts. He’s growing into a plus fastball, a heater that has crept up to touching 99 mph early in outings this spring. He lives in the 92-93 mph range now and it features more movement than carry because of a slightly lower slot…He can get on the side of it at times, so his breaking stuff can be inconsistent. He has a solid split-changeup with some depth,” MLB.com wrote.
“Mobley is a decent strike-thrower, though as is the case with a lot of high school arms, he’s more control over command, and scouts don’t love his arm action.”
