The Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway is officially under the red flag due to thunderstorms in the area. These pesky storms have gotten in the way of IndyCar and NASCAR today.

On what should have been a day full of racing was a day full of delays and interrupted races, now. The Indy 500 was delayed and prevented Kyle Larson from starting the Coca-Cola 600. Now it might stop him from racing in it at all.

We now wait to see if NASCAR wants to wait it out and if the track has to be dried and for how long. We could already have our winner.

Kyle Larson was landing in the helicopter right as the race went to yellow for rain. Then the lightning started to strike nearby and brought the race to red. Justin Allgaier was great in his backup role, getting into the top-15 before the driver swap. Larson was P18 at Indy.

However, Larson will likely have to go to the rear for the driver swap under red. Still, the car is tuned up, ready to go, and Larson is a skilled driver. He will have to run some laps to get used to his car and then from there, he can take off and do what he does best.

The Coca-Cola 600 tests every driver. It pushes the limits of strength and endurance. Larson won’t have to race all 600 miles of course, but he has already raced 500 at Indy. These last 200+ miles or so are going to be intense and will challenge him and the rest of these drivers.

Coca-Cola 600 hoping to get restarted

Once this lightning delay gets gone, we are going to be able to go racing. As long as the rain doesn’t hit the track too hard, the race will get going again. I believe NASCAR wants to race all of the laps tonight and will likely wait a while to do it.

The Coca-Cola 600 is a big deal. This is Memorial Day Weekend, the greatest weekend in motorsports. NASCAR wants to see all of the laps completed and so do these drivers. No one wants to be the driver with the Coke 600 trophy but only 300 actual miles completed.

This race is getting interesting. Christopher Bell has been leading and will lead the field to green once the red flag is lifted. If this 20 team can complete this race and get the win it will be massive for them. They have struggled since winning at Phoenix earlier this season.

Stick around, drink some coffee, and stay up for this Coca-Cola 600. It is going to be a great finish. NASCAR will get the race going again and we can see the last half of this race play out.
