Involved in an accident on Lap 184, Cody Ware spent almost two hours in the NASCAR infield care center with an injury scare. Ware reported pain in his ear but it appears that things are better than he initially believed.

The No. 51 driver for Rick Ware Racing got caught up in a multi-car wreck. Daniel Suárez spun out and in the aftermath, Cody Ware went into the outside wall almost directly head on.

Cole Custer hit the wall at the same time as Ware and both drivers were out of the race. Here is the wreck with Ware slamming the wall.

After leaving the care center, Ware spoke to Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports.

“Dealing with some, dealing with some, a little bit of pain. But nothing major,” Ware said. “Thankfully, no concussions, no issues like that. Just think I might have some problems with my ear but other than that, I’m getting better now.”

As for COTA next week, Cody Ware says he will be just fine.

“We’ll be good for next week.”

Ware is taking on the full Cup Series schedule this season. He is hoping to show off the new speed that Rick Ware Racing has from their alliance with RFK Racing. This week, those goals were put on hold thanks to this wreck.

Cody Ware involved in Daniel Suárez wreck

Noah Gragson, Zane Smith, Cole Custer, JJ Yeley, Cody Ware, Ty Gibbs, and Daniel Suárez were all in the Lap 184 wreck. Custer took a big shot. Suárez checked up in response to Bubba Wallace being blocked by Riley Herbst and it was over from there.

A wreck this late in the race is a big deal. Daniel Suárez will not be able to defend his win in this race. His three-wide peers from a year ago, Kyle Busch and Ryan Blaney are both running up front looking for redemption, though.

This race had a flip to start Stage 3. Teams went for points in the first two stages and those who didn’t then took the lead to begin the final stage. A lot of Chevys now near the front and the Toyotas and Fords will have to figure things out again.

During the early stages, the Team Penske Fords were great. Josh Berry won the opening stage for Wood Brothers and the other Penske cars were at one point in a line behind him.
