Cole Custer on getting Haas Factory Cup seat for 2025: 'It would be a dream come true'
The news that Gene Haas will keep a Cup Series charter has the rumor mill fired up, naming Cole Custer as his likely driver in 2025. The NASCAR Xfinity Series champion finally spoke on the matter today at New Hampshire.
Joe Custer, Cole’s father, will be the President of the newly formed Haas Factory Team. Cole has Cup Series experience with Stewart-Haas Racing and is still a young driver. Not to mention he has a Cup victory to his name.
Today, the driver was asked about the new team for the first time. He would definitely like to be in that seat in 2025.
“Yeah, I mean, I’d love to,” Custer said when asked on the USA broadcast. “You know, that’s what my career has been I guess is it’s always tied to – that relationship. I think you know what Gene Haas has done in this sport and you know it would be a dream come true to get to run that Cup car. I’ve tried to go back to the Xfinity Series to prove what I can do and try and make the most of it and you just kind of try and hope it all sorts itself out.”
Cole Custer went on to talk about his desire to move back to the Cup Series. He isn’t looking to be a career Xfinity Series driver. Three years with SHR in the 41 car and he was moved back down to the lower series.

Cole Custer likely moving back to Cup Series
Gene Haas made it clear why he was keeping a charter for himself. With Haas Tooling and Automation sponsoring his race teams, he relies on that marketing. While NASCAR isn’t the cheapest investment, the team owner sees worth in having “HAAS” on his cars each week.
Haas Factory Team will also field two Xfinity Series cars. It also feels like those two cars in the Xfinity Series are open for whoever has the sponsorship and talent to fill the seats. To me, it feels like Riley Herbst could be on the move one way or another.
During his time as an owner, Gene Haas has contributed a lot to the sport of NASCAR. He has also seen just about everything. Wins, losses, heartbreak, struggles – the entire spectrum of outcomes for a race team.
Cole Custer was moved down to the Xfinity Series and went out and won a championship to prove he was Cup Series ready. Now he’s leading the points in the regular season and looking to repeat on his way to a new ride at the top level of NASCAR.
