College Football Playoff championship game: Notre Dame vs. Ohio State odds released
Ohio State and Notre Dame will square off in the College Football Playoff National Championship on Jan. 20. Las Vegas didn’t waste any time revealing the odds for the highly-anticipated matchup.
According to FanDuel, the Buckeyes are 9.5-point favorites against the Fighting Irish. The over/under point total for the game is set at 47.5 points. The money line for the Buckeyes is set at -410.
Ohio State has looked dominant thus far in the CFP. While Texas kept it close for most of the game against the Buckeyes in the Cotton Bowl Classic, Ohio State eventually ran away with a 28-14 victory.
The Longhorns only trailed OSU by a touchdown with just over two minutes left in the game. However, Buckeyes defensive end Jack Sawyer came up clutch, stripping Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers and returning the fumble for a scoop-and-score touchdown.
Although oddsmakers are confident in Ohio State walking away with the crown this season, Notre Dame won’t roll over. The Fighting Irish showed off their resiliency in their 27-24 win over Penn State in the Orange Bowl on Thursday.
It was a comeback win for the Fighting Irish, who trailed the Nittany Lions 10-3 at halftime. Alas, Notre Dame never stopped swinging, marching down the field and punching it into the end zone on their first drive out of halftime.
The Fighting Irish didn’t stop there, ultimately outscoring Penn State 24-14 in the second half. Notre Dame’s spectacular second-half performance was capped off by kicker Mitch Jeter’s game-winning 41-yard field goal with only seven seconds left in the game.
