The 2024 College World Series is set and some of the best teams in America are poised to compete for the most coveted prize in the sport. The No. 12 seed Virginia Cavaliers are set to tangle with the No. 4 seed North Carolina Tar Heels in a clash of ACC rivals.

Virginia handled the Kansas State Wildcats in the Charlottesville Regional with a 2-0 sweep. In Game 1 of the series, the Cavaliers got a pivotal three-run home run from Henry Godbout. The game-changing swing put Virginia in the lead with a 7-4 advantage. And that was the final. In Game 2, they handled the Wildcats 10-4 to punch their tickets to Omaha.

The North Carolina Tar Heels punched their tickets to Omaha after finishing with a 2-0 sweep of the West Virginia Mountaineers in the Chapel Hill Super Regional. In Game 1 of that matchup, superstar Vance Honeycutt blasted a two-out, two-run walk-off homer to lift UNC to an 8-6 win. In Game 2, Honeycutt once again delivered the heroics for the ‘Heels, blasting a homer on the first pitch of the game. It helped fuel UNC to a 2-1 win over West Virginia, securing their first trip to Omaha since 2018.

The odds for the game have been released on DraftKings and Vegas appears to favor the Tar Heels, but only slightly. UNC is currently a -135 favorite on the money line, according to DraftKings. Virginia is currently listed as a +105 underdog.

Virginia is back in Omaha for the third time in the last four years and the seventh time in program history after going 5-0 through the NCAA Tournament so far. They’re best known for their offense, ranking in the top five in the nation in several different offensive categories. But the Cavalier pitching staff has been a major piece of what’s guided them to the College World Series. In their 9-2 win against Mississippi State, they got a career-best performance from Jay Woolfolk. He struck out a career-high of seven batters, giving up just two earned runs in eight innings of work.

Virginia features an overall record of 46-15 and North Carolina has an overall record of 47-14. The Tar Heels have a pretty talented pitching staff, and they currently boast a 4.22 ERA, which ranks them 15th in the nation in that stat category.
