Colorado over 5.5 wins picked as a bet to avoid

Colorado is one of the most popular programs currently in all of college football. That could mean plenty of bets involving them before and during the course of the upcoming season.

However, ESPN Bet’s Tyler Fulghum is keeping away from the Buffaloes and their win-total of 5.5. In his opinion, the spotlight on them is too bright to feel good about any line for their year coming out of Vegas.

“The Buffaloes are clearly a team that everyone has their eye one. When everyone has their eye on a program, that’s usually where the bookmakers are sharpest, you know what I’m saying?,” said Fulghum on Thursday on ‘Always College Football.’ “I’m staying away from Colorado.”

With that context, there are just too many ways for this season to go at Colorado for Fulghum.

For example, the Buffaloes already made a three-win improvement in wins in their first year under Deion Sanders. That would lead him to believe that, in year two in a return to a conference, especially with their two best players still there, they could have enough to hit the over at six wins and, therefore, be bowl eligible.

“I think a lot of people are going to say, ‘What, they won four games last year? Now they have to increase on that by two?'” Fulghum said. “The over 5.5 is something, I think, a lot of people may look at and say, ‘Nah, they can’t do that.’ But I think Coach Prime is a good coach.

“I think a year of that program? The transfers, weeding out the former Buffaloes that he didn’t think fit his program. A year of development for his son, Shedeur Sanders? Travis Hunter, who might be the best overall college football player in the country? When you have two talents like that, man, I think you can go almost anywhere on any given Saturday and win,” added Fulghum.

Even so, Colorado was still just a four-win team last season. They were a team that lost each of their last six and eight of their final nine. That’s why Fulghum wishes he had a better idea of what they’ll be, especially in the trenches, for this wager.

“Now, of course, defense and offensive line play were a problem,” said Fulghum. “I’ll have to wait until I see them on the field before I get a firmer grip on how good this team actually is.”

The effect of Coach Prime alone should make Colorado one of the most-bet programs in the entire sport again. Still, Fulghum is avoiding them considering how many ways the season could finish for them.

“Wouldn’t be surprised if they’re a five-win team, a six-win team, a four-win team, or an eight-win team,” said Fulghum.
