How to watch Colorado State vs. Texas

Time: 3:30 p.m. ET
Channel: ESPN, FuboTV (streaming)
Location: Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium — Austin, TX

Those watching from home might be thankful to not be watching the game in person, with a scorcher expected in the Lone State State’s capital. Head coach Steve Sarkisian will still have his team ready to play in the heat, looking to start 2024 off 1-0.

Unlike previous regimes, season openers have not been a problem for Sarkisian at Texas. All three have been won in comfortable fashion, even when facing a ranked Louisiana team in 2021. ULM and Rice have been the other two opponents as the Longhorns have won by an average of 29.7 points.

On the flip side, Colorado State has not fared well against power conference opponents in recent years. The Rams are winless in their last eight attempts with the last victory coming in 2018 against the Arkansas Razorbacks. Head coach Jay Norvell will be hoping to break the streak on Saturday.

Texas heading into first season in the SEC

Texas enters a new era in program history as the Longhorns leave the Big 12 for the SEC. Fresh off a conference championship and College Football Playoff appearance, there is some confidence in the 40 Acres and from the outside.

The biggest topic surrounding Texas joining the SEC was their play at the line of scrimmage. Sarkisian had to work hard to get big bodies up front, specifically the offensive line. Results have paid off in a big way thus far but mainly just against Big 12 opponents.

Alabama was an SEC team Texas took down in 2023, being the SEC’s biggest power under head coach Nick Saban. He was impressed with what he saw and believes Texas can consistently compete at the line of scrimmage moving forward.

“Well, I’ll say this about Texas. Texas was built like an SEC team,” Saban said Friday on the Pat McAfee Show. “Sark built Texas like an SEC team. They have big people up front. They’re physical.”
