Neither the NFL or college football season has officially begun, but Texas Longhorns fans are already being given a top-tier memory.

Some of their best over the last couple of seasons linked up following the preseason game between the Arizona Cardinals and Denver Broncos over the weekend. Five former Longhorns posed for a photo after the game, with legendary Texas quarterback Colt McCoy in the center of it all.

Check out the photograph below, which the Texas Football Twitter account fittingly captioned, “Longhorns for life.”

From left to right, you can see former Longhorns Lil’Jordan Humphrey, PJ Locke, the aforementioned McCoy, Caden Sterns and Kris Boyd. That’s an impressive collection of former Longhorns talents, and one that’ll bring a smile to the face of any Texas fan.

Continuing, the former Longhorns in the NFL will be hoping Texas can take the next step towards a return to relevancy in 2023. While they’ll always bleed burnt orange, there’s been a couple of tough seasons over the last couple of years that some in this group have been a part of, so watching a turnaround would certainly warm their hearts.

While they’re in the NFL now, you can bet they’ll be watching to see if Steve Sarkisian and Texas can shock the world this season. Only time will tell.

Texas making the College Football Playoff would be ‘huge for the sport,’ Joel Klatt says

Meanwhile, make no mistake about it, Texas being “back” would be great for the sport. What does “back” look like? Making the College Football Playoff fresh off a Big 12 title, according to Joel Klatt.

This team is talented enough to do it, so said the Fox Sports analyst earlier this offseason.

With Quinn Ewers under center, talent around him on offense, an improving defense and head coach Steve Sarkisian in Year 3, the blueprint is there for a tremendous season.

“Yes, it would be huge for the sport,” Klatt said on The Herd. “Texas is the most underachieving roster in college football over the last five years … I saw Quinn and chatted with him just a couple of weeks ago in Dallas. And, you know, that’s why I was making fun of you because like, listen, he cut his mullet … It wasn’t necessarily grown up. There was a sense of urgency about the way that he was talking about the season.

“It wasn’t so much ‘I’m happy to be here. And isn’t this great?’ As much as it was like ‘I’ve got a mission to accomplish.’”

Host Colin Cowherd referenced a question of maturity in quarterback Quinn Ewers. Klatt dismissed the notion entirely and expects a big season.

“That’s the sense that I got from our conversation,” Klatt said. “And I was intrigued by that, to be quite honest with you, because this is a team as you suggested and I would back this up, they have a roster that should win the conference and compete for a playoff spot.”

That would make Texas fans happy, happier than even seeing some former greats link up. The Longhorns could be in for an exciting 2023.
