Colts CB Charvarius Ward torches Cowboys over decision to trade him away

Charvarius Ward took a shot at the Dallas Cowboys after signing with the Indianapolis Colts. On the Official Colts Podcast, Ward briefly talked about joining the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2018 and being released by the team.
“I was strappin’ all them boys,” Ward said. “I thought I was making the team, but Dallas doesn’t make a lot of good decisions, so they ended up trading me to Kansas City.”
Ward signed with the Cowboys in April 2018 after playing college football at Middle Tennessee. He was traded to the Chiefs in August of that year and spent four seasons in Kansas City. During his time with the Chiefs, the veteran cornerback notched 222 tackles, four interceptions and 10 passes defended in 56 games. He also helped the Chiefs win the Super Bowl during the 2019 season.
Following the 2021 season, Charvarius Ward signed a three-year, $40.5 million contract with the San Francisco 49ers. He had a breakout season in 2023, registering 72 tackles, five interceptions and an NFL-leading 23 passes defended. Ward was named to the Pro Bowl and All-Pro Second Team for his work on the field that year.

Did the Cowboys make a mistake by trading Charvarius Ward?
In March this year, Ward signed a three-year, $54 million contract with the Colts. “I feel like they wanted me more than anything,” Ward said during his introductory press conference last week. “That shows me that they respect my game, they respect me. And I feel like the more you respect me, the harder I play for you, the harder I go.”
Ward then talked about being a locker-room leader. “Maybe I can elevate the guys in my room, all the guys in the DB room, and maybe they can impact a linebacker, and maybe a linebacker can impact a defensive lineman, you know what I’m saying,” Ward said. “It’s a trickle-down effect. I impact one guy, he impacts another guy, and it helps the whole team.”
Ward has established himself as a reliable NFL cornerback who has championship experience. When the Cowboys traded him to the Chiefs they received offensive lineman Parker Ehinger. He spent just one season with the Cowboys before he was released by the team in 2019.
