Sports fans are among the most dedicated and passionate out there, and they’re always looking for ways to get closer to their favorite athletes. Some will throw the kitchen sink at an opportunity to take home a collectible from their favorite star.
Literally.
Last week the Indianapolis Colts’ official Instagram account posted a photo of a fan who wanted to get something special signed by defensive lineman Grover Stewart.
What did the fan bring? Literally, a kitchen sink.
So why the culinary work station? That’s a question you have to go back to HBO’s Hard Knocks to answer.
During the ‘Hard Knocks In Season: The Indianapolis Colts‘ airing, Stewart was featured at one point while preparing some chicken wings. He’s got a special recipe, but it was his unique preparation that drew immediate and intense interest from fans.
Stewart seasoned his chicken wings in the kitchen sink.
To his credit, the sink certainly looked clean. And if you’re going to throw the wings on the grill shortly after anyway, you’re going to burn off any bacteria they might pick up.
So as long as Stewart made sure to clean the sink thoroughly after prepping the chicken wings no harm, no foul.

The wings were popular enough that Indianapolis even began serving chicken wings with Stewart branding in the stadium on gamedays, after agreeing with Stewart on a way to do so.
“If you eat chicken, we’re gonna play good,” Stewart told the Indianapolis Star last fall. “Last year, I cooked chicken for the guys, and we whooped Arizona. I guess it’s a good combination for the defensive line. …
“Cook and lead the way, man.”
Or, if you’re a diehard fan, bring your kitchen sink and lead the way, man.
It’s safe to say there probably aren’t many other fans out there who have the same memorabilia as that intrepid fan captured on the Colts’ Instagram account.
As for Stewart, he’s coming off a terrific season.
His sixth year in the league, Grover’s 2022 campaign finished with 59 tackles, four sacks and three pass breakups. Not bad for a guy who also knows how to fire up some delicious wings on the side.
