Commanders DL Daron Payne shares photo of gruesome thumb injury after win vs. Tampa Bay
Washington Commanders defensive lineman Daron Payne left Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a hand injury, before eventually returning to action.
Payne injured his thumb in the win over the Bucs, and he posted a photo of just how bad it is after the game. You can check it out below:
As you can see, it appears as though Daron Payne dislocated his thumb. While the injury is without a doubt painful, it’s something that he could be able to continue to play through.
Payne made one tackle in the win over Tampa Bay. The Commanders will now play the Detroit Lions on Saturday in the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs.
Daron Payne is a former first-round pick by Washington. He was drafted with the No. 13 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Alabama.
He helped the Crimson Tide to a pair of national titles during his college career and earned first-team All-SEC honors in 2017.
During his time with the Commanders, Payne reached the Pro Bowl in 2022. He was also named to the All-Rookie team in 2018.

Dez Bryant blasts Cowboys following Dan Quinn, Commanders’ win over Buccaneers
The Washington Commanders have made an improbable turnaround in their first year under head coach Dan Quinn and their dynamic signal-caller, Jayden Daniels.
On Sunday night, Daniels was able to guide the Commanders to a playoff victory on the road against Tampa Bay, with a game-winning kick in the final seconds being the difference in the 23-20 victory. Following the historic win for the franchise, former Cowboys star Dez Bryant made sure to light into his former team on Twitter.
“Dan Quinn turned a once-struggling franchise into a playoff contender and won his first playoff game…Until Dallas focuses on winning instead of politics. Cowboy fans should not expect success soon…I’m telling you this straightforwardly.., just as I always do,” Bryant tweeted.
It should be noted that this was not Dan Quinn’s first playoff win, but his first playoff win with Washington. His overall record in the playoffs now sits at 4-2. Quinn led the Atlanta Falcons to the Super Bowl in 2016.
Dallas finished with a disappointing 7-10 overall record and that ranked them third in the NFC East. The previous three seasons the Cowboys made the playoffs, but were dealt painful early exits each time, with two of those coming in the Wild Card Round and one coming in the Divisional Round.
