The Washington Commanders made history Monday night, snapping the Baltimore Ravens’ NFL record 24-game winning streak in the preseason.

Washington halted the streak on the leg of Joey Slye, who nailed a 49-yarder through the uprights with nine seconds remaining to give the Commanders the 29-28 victory. Slye’s game-winner capped off a 14-play, 60-yard drive guided by former Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm.

Turns out, Samuel Cosmi‘s prediction came true. The Commanders offensive lineman not only downplayed the Ravens’ streak ahead of the game, but guaranteed his team would be the ones to end the streak.

“I think it’s a stupid record,” Cosmi said. “I mean, who gives a s— about preseason games? If we beat it, great. We’re gonna beat it, so there we go.”

Cosmi’s guarantee was kept alive after Ravens cornerback Corey Mayfield Jr. was called for pass interference on a fourth-and-11 with 1:04 remaining in the game. The drive continued, with Fromm making some key passes to get Washington within field goal range.

Well before the climax, it was Washington’s first-team offense which stood out. With their full array of offensive starters suiting up, including quarterback Sam Howell, the Commanders put up 17 points in the first half. Howell completed 19-of-25 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns — a nine-yarder to running back Antonio Gibson and an 11-yarder to receiver Dyami Brown.

Washington, however, didn’t make it out unscathed. Star wideout Terry McLaurin exited the game after suffering a toe injury during the first half. The Commanders immediately announced McLaurin as out for the remainder of the game. Per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, X-rays on McLaurin’s toe came back negative. Prior to the injury, McLaurin hauled in three receptions for 39 yards.

Brown, meanwhile, was evaluated for a concussion before being cleared to return. He wrapped up his night with two receptions for 27 yards and a score.

The win marked the second in as many games under the new ownership regime of Josh Harris, who made an appearance in the “Monday Night Football” booth alongside Joe Buck and Troy Aikman.
