Concerning details emerge about Justin Blackmon’s public intoxication arrest

Former NFL and Oklahoma State receiver Justin Blackmon was arrested this past Saturday in Oklahoma for public intoxication. Details have since emerged about Blackmon’s arrest.
According to TMZ, police responded to a call regarding a “larger black male” laying on the ground at 1:32 a.m. Police arrived on the scene and noticed that Blackmon was “unsteady on his feet, reeked of alcohol and was wearing wet clothes.”
Blackmon told the officers he was trying to walk home. They noted his speech was “slurred and confusing.” After Blackmon lied about heading to Stillwater, police placed him under arrest.
Police said that two handcuffs were used “due to his body size and the girth of his wrists … and when he was escorted to a patrol unit, he was ‘unable’ to fit in the back seat ‘due to his body size,'” TMZ wrote in its report.

The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Blackmon No. 5 overall in the 2012 NFL Draft. During his rookie season, the Oklahoma native caught 64 passes for 865 yards and five touchdowns and was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team. In 2013, Blackmon played in just four games because he was suspended twice by the NFL for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
Before the 2014 season, Blackmon was arrested for possession of marijuana. He was arrested again in December 2015 for DUI and was sentenced to one year in jail in August 2016. The sentence was suspended pending the completion of one year of probation. He has not played in the NFL since the 2013 season.
Last year, Blackmon was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. Blackmon will soon be inducted into Oklahoma State’s Ring of Honor. The ceremony is set to take place on Nov. 15 when Oklahoma State takes on Kansas State at Boone Pickens Stadium.
