Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is holding out hope for a quick return to the field, but the description of his injury isn’t necessarily too promising. NBC reported on the quarterback’s situation during Sunday Night Football.

During the broadcast, it was reported that Jones said he “has discomfort in the left side of his neck” and that the sensation goes into his left shoulder. That’s not a very promising sign for a quarterback.

Jones sustained a neck injury during the Giants’ loss to the Dolphins last week. He missed New York’s Sunday Night Football game against the Bills.

Tyrod Taylor received the start in Jones’ place.

Despite the discomfort, Jones said he hopes to be available for next week’s game against the Commanders. Considering how the quarterback described his situation, that sounds a bit optimistic.

Saquon Barkley blasts Giants fans ‘rooting’ for Daniel Jones injury

Although Saquon Barkley didn’t play in last week’s game, he still went to bat for his teammate. He got into it with some fans cheering for Jones’s injury.

During Sunday’s loss to the Dolphins, Barkley started chirping with some fans. Apparently, those individuals had some unsavory comments regarding Jones — who had entered the medical tent for a neck injury.

“When [Jones], someone who would give his freaking all for this franchise and this city and would go out there and risk it every single day and do whatever he can to bring a Super Bowl to this city and this organization, and he just hurt his neck, and he’s sitting in a blue tent getting check on for his neck, and you’ve got a fan just mother-king him, that just doesn’t sit well with me,” Barkley said, per the New York Post. “He’s helpless. He can’t do nothing.”

New York is off to a disappointing 1-4 start this NFL season, drawing plenty of frustration from fans. Barkley says he understands that anger and displeasure.

But to root for a player’s injury? That’s when Barkley said he’d heard enough.

“I get it. I was a fan of football before,” Barkley said. “That’s not in my makeup, in my character, to boo and do stuff like that. But, fans, if you don’t like the product that we’re doing out there — we’ve got to give them a product to be happy about. Go ahead and boo. Or go ahead and cheer. That’s part of the game. But have sympathy at the same time. He’s a human being. Out of all people, it shouldn’t be 8.”
